Team Japspeed VH45DETT Powered Nissan S15 Silvia

Dropping a V8 into a Nissan S-body is hardly anything new; in the States it is almost mandatory to utilise an LS V8 in competition level drifting. However, what makes our S15 unique is our decision to stick with a power plant from the Nissan stable – the somewhat relatively unknown VH45.

The VH45 was originally found in Nissan’s upmarket President model – a car that certainly wasn’t manufactured with drifting in mind! With nothing but a vision and a whole lot of creativity the engine was maneuvered into the S15’s engine bay along with a brace of bespoke exhaust manifolds and a pair of GT28R turbos. Custom fabrication work was also required on the front arches to accommodate the pair of blowers, along with the requirement for more room for the front tyres on full lock.

With instantaneous torque available right through the rev range with just a trickle of boost to help it along this is one special S15, and a special  drift car needs a special driver. Enter Shane Lynch, Boyzone star and member of Team Japspeed since 2007. Shane took to the S15’s new-found horsepower and torque like a duck to water and it wasn’t long until he was racking up the results. The car has had a number of different guises over the years but has always remained a firm fan favourite, although whether that’s due to the engine or the driver we’re not too sure!
