Team Japspeed & Brett Castle

Our Scooby had a tough time in 2013: numerous mechanical issues coupled with a new driver trying to get settled with the car resulted in a difficult season, but that’s not to say that we didn’t have fun along the way! When internationally renowned driver Brett Castle took over the then-vacant seat in the Subaru we all knew we had a long and challenging year ahead of us and, unfortunately, things often didn’t pan out as planned.

Brett is undoubtedly one of the most naturally talented drivers on the scene and, with well over ten years experience behind the wheel of various drift cars, he knows exactly what’s required to take a car to the top of the podium. While our Subaru was completely different to the array of Nissans he has driven in the past it was still a big powered RWD car and he took to it like a fish to water.

Despite the mechanical issues and bad luck throughout the year Brett and the team remained positive, took any failures on the chin and soldiered on to make the best of the situation. Towards the tail end of the season we decided to retire the Subaru for the year and set about rebuilding it from scratch for the 2014 Autosport show. Brett was disheartened but later took to the wheel of our 2JZ IS200 in the meantime, further proving his ability as he adapted to it without a moment’s hesitation.

Unfortunately we have to announce that Brett will no longer be driving the Team Japspeed Subaru in the 2014 Maxxis British Drift Championship, although he will be hopping in the drivers seat for various demos throughout the year. Brett has been an asset to the team since joining and has always been a team player, helping out wherever possible and getting down to the nitty gritty with the cars when the need be. We have been extremely honoured to have him as part of the team and look forward to continuing to work with him in the future.
