TEAM JAPSPEED SMOKING RINGS AROUND COVENTRY!

It is fair to say 2015 has so far brought a lot of new our way, including new car builds, new competitive structuring to both BDC and IDC; not to mention new events to attend! All at Team Japspeed strive to bring the spectacle and fun of drifting to as many new audiences as we can, which is why we were delighted to be invited along with a number of drivers and teams from the British Drift Championship to put on a display at Coventry MotoFest 2015!

Based in the city of Coventry, UK this event may only be a couple of years old but brings an exciting yet unique blend of racing demonstrations, static displays as well as live music to the streets of the city.

“Motofest is not a festival being put on by us for the people of Coventry, rather it is the citizens (both individual and corporate) of Coventry coming together to put on a spectacular festival for the nation.”
– Coventry MotoFest

The BDC would be there demonstrating the art of drifting on the closed roads of the city during Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st May. Japspeed driver Paul ‘Smokey’ Smith jumped at the opportunity to smoke up the famous Coventry ring road alongside familiar faces from the BDC!

Arriving on the Saturday morning it wasn’t long before we were set up and raring to go!

Despite the slightly damp conditions thousands of people lined the city streets as the action kicked off on the iconic ring road. Not that we ever let the weather stop us smoking up some Maxxis MA-Z1 tyres!

Alongside a host of other professional BDC drivers Paul Smith put in a number of superb runs around the short street circuit throughout the course of the two day event.

When we weren’t out on track there was plenty to see including demos from a number of short oval motorsport disciplines and even ‘Sherman’ the Audi A4 piloted by Rob Austin representing the BTCC on the same circuit as the BDC!

Not to mention an impressive line up of Jaguar models from across the years in attendance. Jaguar celebrated their 80th anniversary at the show and spectators were treated to an array of incredible models including this 1988 Jaguar XJR9 Le Mans winning racer.
