Japspeed

BACKWARDS AT 113MPH!

Last weekend saw the return of Europe’s biggest Japanese car show, Japfest descend on the iconic Silverstone Circuit. Team Japspeed were delighted to be invited back to take part in the annual Drift Kings competition – an all-out go hard or go home contest where drivers are expected to push their cars and their ability to the limit to maximise scores and impress the gathered spectators. Team Japspeed drivers Paul ‘Smokey’ Smith and Matt ‘Doorhunter’ Carter just couldn’t resist the opportunity to hit the blacktop.

In the true spirit of the sport Paul and Matt spent the day alongside a number of British Drift Championship drivers putting in run after run; each more brave than the one which came before, filling the air with the sound of singing engines and huge amounts of tyre smoke!

With the gathered crowd treated to ever more daring entry speeds and ridiculous angles there was only one way the day was going to go. True to form Matt ‘Doorhunter’ Carter stunned onlookers and commentators alike with a series of reverse entries each time gaining pace until topping the charts at a whopping 113mph!

A performance which not only earned him 1st place but a new personal best in the process, toppling his 107mph recorded backwards entries at the same event in 2016!

All in all an outstanding performance from all the drivers involved. Everyone at Team Japspeed would like to congratulate Matt Carter on claiming the Drift Kings title a 2nd year running.
