DRIFT ON THE DOCKS

Last weekend saw the return of the Irish Drift Championship and one of the biggest events in Irish Drift history as the team realised months of work and preparation to bring a brand new venue to the series – Dun Laoghaire Harbour. With a spectacular change of scene it was clear this would be a spectacle to remember.

With Round 1 a proving ground for the new 2JZ setup in Shane ‘Sully’ O’Sullivan’s Japspeed S15, Round 2 would give Shane a chance to get behind the wheel and really get to grips with the new configuration. Heading into Pro Practice on the Saturday Shane made the most of the ever-reliable 2JZ powerhouse to fill the air with smoke from the new Maxxis
VR1 tyres.

Full of confidence, with car and driver giving their all throughout Saturday practice and into Sunday qualifying, (where Shane would claim 2nd place overall) the main event was set to be EPIC!

Having guaranteed his place in the Top 16, Shane headed straight into battle against non-other than Brian Egan of team Dealtwidth. Leading the way on the first battle, Shane put in an incredible performance making that 2JZ engine sing and filling the harbour air with tyre smoke. However Brian was with him all the way and now with the Dealtwidth driver to lead, Shane knew he would have to push hard to claim the victory.

With both drivers pushing their cars to the limit, risking bumper and limb against the famous IDC concrete walls the gathered spectators were treated to a spectacle of immense proportions. Unfortunately the weekend came to a premature end for Shane and the Japseed.ie team as momentary contact with the wall forced Shane to straighten handing Brian the advantage.

Two rounds down and everything to play for, Shane and team are determined to make the most of the remaining 2017 IDC series with the new 2JZ powerplant. All at Team Japspeed would like to wish congratulations to Jack Shanahan, Brian Egan and Joe Doyle on taking podium at round 2 of the 2017 Irish Drift Championship.
