Team Japspeed at Silverstone Gymkhana Grid!

At the weekend the Japspeed team headed down to the prestigious Silverstone circuit to take part in the latest round of the Gymkhana Grid series. Being run alongside the well-established BTCC championship ensured that the event was a  big hit with the crowds, giving thousands of people their first taste of gymkhana and drifting.

With the event being the final qualifying round before the Gymkhana Grid final in Madrid next month there were plenty of drivers from the Maxxis British Drift Championship in attendance along with international visitors including Luke Fink and Abdulhadi Al-Qahtani.

Japspeed drivers Paul Smith and Brett Castle were in attendance in the Japspeed 1.5JZ S15 and 2JZ IS200 and, while they wouldn’t be competing in the gymkhana competition, they would be putting on plenty of thrilling demonstrations throughout the course of the weekend with Monster Energy athletes Buttsy and Baggsy.

Paul and Brett were both on fire all weekend, laying waste to numerous Maxxis tyres with their close proximity drifting while smoking out the arena.

The guys also got to take part in the Monster Energy signing session, with hundreds of fans leaving the Monster rig with big grins on their faces and lots of signed merchandise in their hands!

The guys thoroughly enjoyed putting on a show and drifting in a pressure-free environment with friends and team mates alike. The S15 and IS200 performed flawlessly and, aside from from Brett living up to his name and breaking something at every event (in this case an IS200 headlight having got a bit too close to Paul’s S15!) the team had a perfect weekend.

Our next event is DriftMatsuri at Anglesey circuit over the 19th and 20th October – make sure you grab your tickets here!
