Trax is a must-attend event for any modified car enthusiast, a staple of the UK show calendar and a chance for cars from every corner of every scene to be displayed to the masses. While the club stands and static displays fill the vast majority of Silvertone’s surrounding land, it’s the on-track action that really gets us excited.
The British Drift Championship would once again be taking to the legendary circuit to strut their stuff in front of the tens of thousands in the crowd, although unlike previous years the sideways action would consist of a handful of demonstration sessions as opposed to a competition with qualifying and battles.
The atmosphere at the event was very relaxed as a result and the drivers could concentrate on just having fun on the high speed track and trying their best to pull off the most entertaining drifts possible.
Team Japspeed drivers Paul Smith and Brett Castle would be piloting the Japspeed 1.5JZ S15 and 2JZ powered Lexus IS200 in fronts of the crowds, hoping to put on the best show possible with plumes of smoke from their Maxxis tyres and the wild soundtracks of their straight six engines amplified through their Shotgun exhausts.
The cars certainly received plenty of attention in the pits, with everyone walking past the Japspeed gazebo stopping to a take a closer look at the finer details of the two.
All of the drifters would be piloting their cars through the Brooklands and Luffield sections of the circuit, with entry speeds getting higher and higher as the day progressed.
Even though there was a rain shower at around midday the drifters soldiered on regardless and it wasn’t long before they were back out there tearing up the track…
…Â with Paul Smith in particular displaying his spectacular ability to lay down a ridiculous amount of smoke despite the track surface being greasy!
Brett was really enjoying his time behind the wheel of the Lexus, the new Figs Engineering front suspension setup allowing him to wind on as much steering lock as he desired upon initiating into Brooklands and then onwards to the transition through Luffield.
Thanks to Silverstone being well equipped with large run-off areas both Paul and Brett could push themselves harder and harder without the fear of leaving the track, which certainly made for some spectacular entries from the two!
After three fantastic sessions it was time to pack up and head home after a day of super-fun and relaxed drifting – we must offer a big thanks to the British Drift Championship for inviting us and to the Silverstone crew for welcoming the sport of drifting to the track for another year!
