Back in January 2011 Team Japspeed were given the opportunity to perform at Europe’s biggest motorsport expo, Autosport International. Attracting over 75,000 visitors and 400 exhibitors this was a seriously exciting display for Japspeed, who faultlessly drifted to an all-new crowd with some of the wildest stunts the UK has ever seen.
With the 2012 Autosport show just weeks away, Japspeed are hugely excited to announce their return to the Live Action Arena taking place over January 12th-15th at Birmingham’s NEC. Fresh from their recent Top Gear Live performance, the whole team have mastered the slippery indoor surface thanks to the Maxxis MA-Z1 Drift tyres allowing them to twin drift just inches apart at speeds of over 60mph.
‘Drifting is still a very new sport in the UK, and a show like Autosport combines every motorsport in the world from F1 to drag racing and stock cars.’ explains Japspeed Principal Paul McCallum. ‘For us to be invited back to such an event is a huge honour – we are constantly pushing professional drifting as a serious sport and clearly the fans are loving our displays!’
In 2011 the team successfully performed their reverse figure-of-eight trick inspired by the Japanese ‘Team Orange’ drift display. This involves two cars drifting simultaneously in opposite figure-of-eights with them passing one another just moments apart in the middle of the display. One wrong foot and it can spell disaster!
‘We’ve got something else up our sleeves, but we’ll keep that one a surprise until the show’ adds Paul. ‘We’re back in the workshop making more changes to the cars for 2012 so this will be the perfect way to launch them into the 2012 season.’
