So we’ve just about recovered from the mental weekend that was ‘Awesomefest’ and what an event! Created and organised by the team at Driftworks, Awesomefest took a slightly different approach to your traditional show, taking inspiration from the likes of Gatebil with open track sessions throughout the day, professional drift demos, night drifting, skate park, Motox track and a massive dance tent sponsored by Sky Insurance. Put simply, it’s more of a festival than just a show, and credit where credit’s due the guys did a top job from Friday right through to Sunday afternoon.
Team Japspeed were lucky enough to be one of the professional drift teams invited to the event, and it’s safe to say Mallory Park is one hell of a track to drift! With the entire track and paddock floodlit the Japspeed cars weren’t out until 10pm on the Saturday – full on night drifting, and what a crazy experience. Baggsy, Shane and Paul were all along ready to wow the crowds – it’s a surreal experience to be drifting this late and care-free with most events closing or facing noise regulations past 5pm.
Along with the team cars, Japspeed also brought along their team trailer – the perfect addition to let you punters meet and great the drivers, check out Japspeed’s latest products and generally chill out and enjoy the show. With a fresh set of Maxxis MA-Z1s fitted the Japspeed cars hit the track, and with a huge long straight allowing entry speeds upto 100mph followed by a hairpin bend it’s safe to say all three cars well and truly smoked out the Mallory Circuit! Smoke + night time + flaming shotgun exhausts, if you weren’t there, you missed out BIG time.
Once again we’d like to thank all the Driftworks team for inviting us along and putting together a cracking first show. another big thanks goes to Maxxis Tyres as always for the continued support – Drifting is at an all-time high in the UK and it’s already looking like 2012 is going to be a massive year for us all with so much interest and backing. Make sure you check out Team Japspeed’s Facebook for more images and information from the weekend.
