Leading his class in the championship, and sitting in 6th place overall, the Derbyshire based team of “VF-Racing” and driver Vaughan Fletcher headed to Leicestershire for rounds 5 and 6 of the “Classic Thunder” race series. As part of the annual CTCRC “Classic Festival” the 2011 event had relocated from Lydden Hill for this years showing. Qualifying called for a tough tyre choice due to torrential downpours prior to going out on track. With rain in the air, falling on a drying track an intermediate tyre was chosen, which helped place the Impreza 5th on the grid and 1st in class.
Racing was run in dry conditions, which allowed for slick tyres to be used to obtain the best from the car’s chassis. Both races produced good battles for position, yet remained honest and trouble free for the team A brace of class wins were the end result, with 4th and 3rd overall in races 1 and 2 respectively, with new personal best lap times recorded.
Overall, it was an excellent weekends racing, with great results in both races. Maximum points will be added to our score, extending our lead in class and pushing us further up the overall leader board. Our next race will see us cross the border into Wales and on to Pembrey over the weekend of 30th/31st July.
