It’s been another manic weekend for Team Japspeed, one which took us all the way to Rockingham Speedway for the French Car Show. Truth be told it’s not our usual show (seeing as we’re a team of Japanese cars) but Rockingham is one of the best racing complexes the UK has to offer, and any excuse to practice/show off drifting is a good enough reason for Japspeed!
Saturday morning and with the cars loaded up we set off ready for the Sunday show. We’d be drifting it two areas – first, the smaller ‘live action arena’ opposite the Maxxis stand where punters could stand right close to the barriers – not ideal space for speed, but great for smoke! The second was the banked oval circuit, which allowed us to show off some full-speed entries to give a true representation of how fast drifting really is.
FCS allowed us to bring all three cars including Shane and Paul’s S15 and Baggsy’s Impreza. With Shane fresh from the Gumball 3000 there wasn’t much time for sleep, but that’s never been a problem for Team Japspeed in the past! By Saturday afternoon Japspeed arrived with all three cars and a truck full of Maxxis MA-Z1 Drift cars ready for Sunday’s performances.
Eager to please, Japspeed pulled off a massive range of stunts including the ultra-risky reverse figure-of-eight where two drivers go one direction and another goes the opposite. All three drivers were absolutely on fire, giving the crowd an awesome display every single time – check out the YouTube video below for a cheeky snapshot!
On the main track the displays got even better – with a huge main straight and long, sweeping banked corners Rockingham allows for a lot of speed which, combined with the Japspeed cars and skill equals plenty of angle, noise and smoke! It’s a quality venue, one we’d love to drift more often (even if it was just a display this weekend).
