Another week and another podium for Team Japspeed’s Shane O’Sullivan! Fresh from his victory at Round 3 of the Maxxis British Drift Championship at Teesside, Shane headed back to his native Ireland for Round 4 of the Irish Drift Championship.
Held at Ennis Marts, the purpose built enclosed track forced drivers to push their spatial awareness to the limit as the judges encouraged them ever closer to the menacing concrete blocks that surrounded the circuit.
The weather forecast predicted torrential downpours throughout the weekend and, when the rain fell, the already tricky track layout became incredibly unforgiving.
Once the dust had settled after qualifying, Sully had secured 5th place and a position in the Top 16 battles.
Shane’s first battle saw him drawn against former IDC champion and BDC judge Brendan Stone, with Sully taking the win. Sully’s winning streak wouldn’t stop there, as he knocked both Kevin O’Connell and Mike Deane out in the Top 8 and Top 4 on his way to the final.
The final saw Shane drawn against Alan Lenihan and, after two extremely close fought battles, Sully secured second place on the podium.
This weekend sees Team Japspeed head to Lydden Hill for Round 4 of the Maxxis British Drift Championship. With Shane currently topping the points table, let’s hope he can grab another podium finish and extend his lead further!
